footnotes without subscript

I see many authors of popular history footnote their work with the page number, and a key phrase, of where the fact they wanted cited appears -- there is no actual footnote number in the text. Anybody know what style this is called and anything about how to do it with Zotero?

    could you give an example, I don't think I understand.

    Sure, reading the text of a book, you will see no indication at all of a footnote. In the endnotes section at the end of the book, however, authors will do this:

    Page 4 (of the book) "At all times, day or night:" (a reference to the exact place on page 4 that is being cited) Thurston, Memoirs, vol. 2, 295.

    I think they do this in order not to clutter up the text with subscripts, etc.

    ah yes, sure, I have seen that, but you can't do that with Zotero, no, sorry. Couldn't think of a good workaround, either. I suppose you could use Chicago and endnotes and just make the font for the endnotes white/invisible, though that would still require a fair amount of manual edit, including the page no.
    I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a name, either. Definitely not mentioned in any major style manual.
