Error while saving articles

When I want to add an article to my zotero library, it almost instantly says that "an error occured while saving this item" and that I should check known translator issues for more information. Report ID:456734488
  • we'd need the URL you're saving from as well as your set-up (which browser, which Zotero version) together with that error report ID.
  • Ok, the browser is google chrome, and the zotero version is 4.0 for mac.

  • thanks - WoK URLs aren't stable, so we'd need you to run us through what exactly you're clicking on (which database, which search term(s) which article). Needn't be this specific query if it's complex, just anything that produces the same error for you so we can try to replicate this on our side.
  • Ok, you could try google scholar, I'm currently searching articles on hops and the same thing happens there.
  • oh great, could we get a URL for a search where that happens as well as the error report ID for that?
Google scholar is much easier to troubleshoot.

  • @Dan - what's in the error report?
  • So a couple things:
[JavaScript Error: "Save to server failed with 403 Authentication failed" {file: "chrome-extension://ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc/zotero/connector/translate_item.js" line: 198}]
Your Chrome connector isn't properly authenticating to the Zotero servers. That would probably happen if you manually deleted the connector's API key in the Zotero settings, or maybe if the initial attempt to authenticate failed due to a server error or if you accidentally closed the login window. In any case, not your fault, since the connector should automatically pop up another password prompt, but it wasn't due to a bug that Simon just fixed. So the next version of the connector will handle this better.

But you also shouldn't need to save directly to the server most of the time. You should instead have Zotero Standalone open, in which case the connector will save directly to there, and you'll get better results if you do. So make sure you have Zotero Standalone installed and running and this should work now.
  • It's working! Thank you so much for your help!
