error report 1056954675

Hello,

when trying to save a reference from Web of Science using the address bar icon in Firefox I receive the following notice(translated from Dutch):

An error occurred while saving this item (er is een fout opgetreden bij het opslaan van dit item)
See troubleshooting translator issues for more information.

I do not know what caused this, both Firefox and Zotero are up to date and this website worked without fail yesterday. I tested with Amazon, Google Books and my own university Catalogue and they remain to work without fail. Also, the error only occurs in the sites of a specific article, not the search overview (where zotero offers to save a map, it just does not save anything in zotero). I have tried multiple articles and all of them give this error message.

As said, this worked perfectly fine yesterday and I have not adjusted any settings in the mean time.

If any other information is required do tell me so I can help you help me.

Thank you very much.
  • could you give us exact steps to recreate what you're doing?
Search terms, which collections you're searching in (or if it's just WoS core), which article(s) you clicked on.

    WoS works flawlessly for me.
  • To be able to use my university SFX I have to go through their proxy

    http://digitallibrary.leidenuniv.nl/V/?func=native-link&resource=LDN00462

after logging in I come to this address

    http://apps.webofknowledge.com.ezproxy.leidenuniv.nl:2048/WOS_GeneralSearch_input.do?product=WOS&search_mode=GeneralSearch&SID=Q2qd8rSci5ZI6WvkPLZ&preferencesSaved=

Then searching for my current subject "Normal cadaveric spinal cord" in title

    http://apps.webofknowledge.com.ezproxy.leidenuniv.nl:2048/Search.do?product=WOS&SID=Q2qd8rSci5ZI6WvkPLZ&search_mode=GeneralSearch&prID=82ac97fb-db16-47a5-9a17-11d8fac98263

here a map icon in the address bar exists which when I click it gives no error, but does not do anything either. Zotero remains empty.

going to one of the articles: MORPHOMETRY OF THE NORMAL CADAVERIC CERVICAL SPINAL-CORD

    http://apps.webofknowledge.com.ezproxy.leidenuniv.nl:2048/full_record.do?product=WOS&search_mode=Refine&qid=12&SID=N2JbQnSdql1UxUmZOhD&page=1&doc=2

clicking the address bar icon gives the error. all other articles give the same error.

    Is this helpful?

    Thank you

@Ignotus: Please check step 10 here:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues
Also, could you confirm you're on Firefox 33 and Zotero 4.0.23.1?

@Dan anything in the error report?

edit: and yes, those steps are useful, I can get to that exact place locally, but it works fine for me.
  • Sorry, one more questions, in your proxy settings in Zotero, what exactly is the string under "Configured Proxies"?
  • My Firefox cookie preferences are set correctly.

Neither firefox(33.0.1) nor Zotero(4.0.23) claim to be able to find any more updates. These are the preferences, add-on and about windows
    http://oi60.tinypic.com/2rejfo8.jpg

as you can see I have no proxies tab. I don't know why.

I have tried to reinstall zotero but that did not upgrade to 4.0.23.01
  • oh, you're also using Standalone? Close down Zotero Standalone. Make sure Zotero for Firefox is up to date (that'd be the 4.0.23.1 version). Then first try this with Zotero Standalone closed. Pretty sure that'll work.

It might be that there's a problem going through a proxy when using Standalone.
  • You are right.

I have am now fully and completely updated and the problem does lie with Zotero Standalone. Only when having standanlone opened the references will be automatically placed in the folder I want them in, and usually I write and cite at the same time, which is why I have Standalone opened at all times. Luckily there are ways to circumvent this problem. (using my library catalogue, Wiley library etc)

Thank you for figuering out where the problem lies. if you know a solution that does not require closing Standalone I am very open to it.

    Thank you for your help.
  • nly when having standanlone opened the references will be automatically placed in the folder I want them in, and usually I write and cite at the same time, which is why I have Standalone opened at all times.
the Firefox add-on can handle all of this, too. Just open it by clicking on the Z icon at the top right, select the desired collection--done. Install the Word/LO add-on from here:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation

Since both share the same database, you can move between them as you please, too: whenever you open Standalone, the Firefox add-on automatically closes.
  • I did not know that, thank you!
  • (as a bonus feature, and as I've alluded to above, the Firefox version can remember your proxy server and save you the step through SFX once you've used any given resource once: https://www.zotero.org/support/preferences/proxies -- if you're working from off campus a lot, that's incredibly useful).
  • Dan, can you still take a look at the report ID?
  • No relevant errors in there.
  • Is there any way to get the automatic redirection w/in FF while Zotero is open? My workflow usually entails having standalone open (I like the separate window) and saving references from FF.
