Moving to new collection

When I search my "main library" for items related to topic "A" that I then wish to copy to/share with "Collection A", the relevant items are listed showing parent & child. I then have to deflate each item to parent level to copy across to "Collection A". Can I avoid the automatic display of parent & child, & simply get parent listed in central column that I can ten place in relevant collection. Thanks.
