Syncing on a different computer

I have a big series of Conflict Resolution problems in Zotero Standalone! I had to switch to a different computer, and after I installed Zotero Standalone and tried to sync (by clicking on the green arrow), a window eventually opened stating that I have 1000+ conflicts. It looks like I would need to go through those conflicts one by one, and I’d rather not do that. In Zotero online, My Library looks quite up to date. I tried switching to Zotero in Firefox rather than using Standalone but it made no difference – the same Conflict Resolution messages appear. My Debug ID is D72659267 -- I submitted it, but is there something else I can do with it?

I'd really appreciate any advice!
  • Dan will take a look at the Debug ID, you don't need to do anything else with it. What kind of conflicts do you see in the conflict resolution dialog? (e.g. Last Modified timestamp is different, some other field consistently different, or you might not even be able to see a difference)
  • It looks like you have a huge number of child items that are assigned to different parent items locally and remotely, modified Jan 2013 and July 2014 respectively. My best guess would be that you merged many duplicate items while your Zotero wasn't fully in sync, but that wouldn't happen if you'd really never used Zotero on this computer before. I'm guessing you did, though?

In any case, if you're happy with your online library, your best bet is to delete the Zotero data directory on this computer and let it pull down data from the server. (Normally I'd say to use the Restore from Zotero Server feature in Zotero, which is easier, but because of your situation I'd be worried that that would leave some orphaned files behind.) Make a backup of your data directory first for good measure.
