Sync Mac-PC

Hi!

I have home laptop with Win and work computer with OS X.
I am not sure, whether I do correct, but I would like the following.
I have Zotero Standalone on both devices.
On laptop I've organised my collection: each record has a pdf-file, downloaded from the journal web-page and saved somewhere in Zotero storage folder.
I synchronise the storage folder the analogous storage folder on Mac using another service (copy.com).
However, the database zotero.sqllite contains absolute links to the files (I am aware about sql browser and structure of this database).
As a result, files are not recognised by Zotero on Mac.
Is it possible to do something in this direction or I try to do things which are orthogonal to some Zotero ideology?
Ideal solution for me is to have two identical library on Mac and PC which both can work without Internet connection.

WBR,
Dmitri Finkelshtein.
  • I'm not clear on what you're doing--if you're actually storing the PDFs in the Zotero storage folder, the default, the links will not, in fact, be absolute links. If you just sync the storage directory, that's all you need to do (make sure you only every sync Zotero data--i.e. zotero.sqlite--using Zotero's own sync).

If you have this set up some other way you'll need to explain this a bit more, though likely you'd want to be looking at relative links in the advanced tab of the preferences.
  • Sorry, my fault. I was not too inattentive.
    The relative links works fine!
  • I'll just re-iterate
make sure you only every sync Zotero data--i.e. zotero.sqlite--using Zotero's own sync
Do _not_ sync zotero.sqlite using third-party services.
  • I am absolutely lost now. (Probably I did something wrong from the very beginning.)
On the advanced tab, files and folders I have two fields.
The first describes the directory with respect to which all relative fields will be considered. In my case, it is 'D:\Copy\Zotero'
The content of this directory may be sync using third-party service, isn't it?
    - But what should be the content: the folder 'storage' only?
Next, the second field is Zotero Profile. It may/should not be sync using third party service, isn't it?
    - However, this folder also include subfolder 'storage'. And as I can see, this folder is changed after I add a pdf to a record, thereas the first directory not.
    Sorry, for elementary questions.

    WBR,
    Dmitri.

Yes, as long as it doesn't contain your zotero.sqlite file, which it generally should not.

Edit: ... sorry, clicked Post too soon
    - But what should be the content: the folder 'storage' only?
Not sure what you mean here. This is for _linked_ attachments. I.e. the ones you attach with "Attach link to file" (not "Attach Stored Copy of File"), or attachments that ZotFile moves. This has nothing to do with "storage" directory, which is where "Stored Copies of Files" are located.
It may/should not be sync using third party service, isn't it?
Yes, this directory as a whole must not be synced by third-party services. Some services allow you to select specific folders on your computer to sync. You can use those services to sync the "storage" _sub_directory.
