citation trouble

Hi! Actually I´ve no idea what to post that anyone could follow but I try. My ideas of Computers is near to zero:-/I´m working with word and I´ve chosen Chicago Manual of style 16th Edition (full note) as citation style. I`ve forgot when it started but meanwhile it`s the siuation that citations which have already been used and are used again, later on, get a new number and are treated like a new citation?! Another thing is that citations I cite again directly (e.g. Citation No. 10 = Mr.Smith, No. 11 = Mr.Smith) are not mentioned with full note in the list of references but as "Ibid."??? Help! Thank you!!!

    Are you able to edit existing citations (e.g. 10 and 11 in your example above) using Zotero's "Edit Citation" button in word?

    is all exactly as it should be. If that's not the behavior you want, you likely do not want to be using Chicago Manual of Style. Try e.g. "Vancouver," "Nature," or "IEEE" instead. Note that this will _only_ print the numbers, you will not see any reference list at first. You need to insert the reference list by clicking "Insert Bibliography" in Zotero's Word add-on.

    Shouldn't "Ibid." work though? Unless those are not actually one after another, but then the numbers wouldn't be consecutive.

    That's the description of the presumed problem, but it is, in fact, ibid. working exactly as it should.

    When I do so with any Ibid-citation and the "Edit Citation" button it gives me the respective reference in the red box and after confirming by Enter the red box just disappeared again...sorry I don`t know how to explain it in a better way....I´m going mad

    read my post. You don't want to be using Chicago Manual as a citation style. Change the citation style under Set Document Preferences.

    ok, I was just too slow;-) So if I got it right I just would have to Change the citation type if I´m not ok with the one I`ve Chosen? My only Problem with this type is, that I´m meanwhile at citation No.450 but actually this is not the case, you know?

    Me again:-/ so in principle it works! I inserted the reference list as you told me and I changed the style from Chicago to nature. Two Problems are left: First is that the citation numbers in the next do not fit with those in the reference list. To my optinion the numbers in the text stayed and since those whole "Ibid." stuff is gone, the whole list was "minimized" and e.g. no 100 in the text fits now to no. 60 in the list. Is it possible to adjust this?
    Second is that I wanted to insert two more citations after I´ve inserted the bibliography and this citation has now again No.1 as number and does appear as a footnote at the respective page?!

    Try this:
    1. Change the style back to Chicago Full Note and click OK.
    2. Again, enter the Set Document Prefs dialog and set it to "Footnotes" (rather than Endnotes). click OK.
    3. Enter that same window for a third time and change the citation style to Nature again.

    I'd hope that this would fix at least the first issue you describe.

    Me again, one little "problem" is left: how can I link the reference numbers in the text with the bibliography? Means, I changed the zitation type (from Chicago to nature), before by touching the reference number in the text with the cursor I could see to which zitation the number belongs to. Do I have to adjust the text stuff with the bibliography? Thanks!

    not sure I understand. You're now in Nature style, correct?

    I don't understand what "touching the reference number" means. "touching" as in changing or as in hovering over?

    And is there a problem currently with the bibliography? In Nature style the numbers should just correspond.

    the numbers do correspond, means the numbers in the text fit perfectly to the ones in the bibliography. BUT when I point at a number in the text, with the mouse cursor, it doesn`t tell me the reference, so it did before. Do you know what I mean?

    oh right. Yes, that doesn't exist for numerical styles, sorry.

    when I now want to insert a further Zitation the reference number in the text appears in bigger letters (Times New Roman 12) than the ones which are already there (10). To actively change it is not the right way isn`t it? How I can I deal with this?

    Right before you insert it, does word display proper font and font size in the toolbar?

    It Displays the font and font size of the text (times new roman 12). Actually I would prefer 12;-) 10 is really small...
