can't install

Alright I'm not sure what is going on. When ever I try installing the plugin extensions I keep keeping the, "unable to install the plug in because libre office is open. Make sure its closed and restart firefox." Or something like that. I have restarted my computer five times now, uninstalled zotero, installed it, opened and closed libre office several times and have tried to restart my computer and try to install the plug in and nothing happen. Nothing has seemed to work now. I have the newest Libre office platform and I tried downloading the new zotero for it. Thoughts?
  • Restart your computer, open Firefox/Zotero, enable debug logging, and attempt to install the plugin. Submit the log and post the debug ID here.

It would also be helpful if you provided more details about your setup. OS, Zotero/Firefox, and LibreOffice versions.
  • Debug ID: D1384491843

    I have a PC Windows7 Vista
    Word 2003
    Libre Office: 4.3
Firefox: Recently upgraded to the newest version
And regarding Zotero I simply downloaded the newest files for the browser and Libre.
  • Dan will take a look at the Debug ID and get back to you.
    I have a PC Windows7 Vista
Windows 7 and Windows Vista are separate operating systems. Probably doesn't matter either way in this case though.
Firefox: Recently upgraded to the newest version
And regarding Zotero I simply downloaded the newest files for the browser and Libre.
For future reference, "newest version" is not very informative to us. See here for Firefox version and go to about:addons to find versions of the Zotero and LibreOffice integration extensions.

Sorry regarding the firefox post: 32.0.2 is my version.

Regarding my OS I was wrong. It is Windows 7 Ultimate, 2009 copyright with a service pack 1, 32 bit

3.5.9 for libre and 3.1.17 for word
  • [JavaScript Error: "uncaught exception: Could not remove C:\Users\[...]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP\Zotero.dot"]

[JavaScript Error: "uncaught exception: unopkg at C:\Program Files\LibreOffice 4\program\unopkg.exe failed to install"]
Since you're getting an error for Word too, I'd guess that security software on your system is interfering with the ability of Zotero (via Firefox) to write to the filesystem.

so then this is a fire wall issue? the program is enabled on my extension section.
  • Not firewall (though the product might call itself that, at least in part) — just security software. If you're running any, try disabling it temporarily.
  • No, not firewall. Some anti-malware or antivirus getting confused. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do from here to diagnose. You can make sure that this is the case by trying to manually delete the Zotero.dot file referenced in Dan's post (the [...] part is your Windows username). If you're able to delete the file, then something is specifically blocking Firefox/Zotero from doing it. After deleting the file, you should be able to reinstall the Word add-in via Zotero preferences
