Using Custom Abbreviation List

Is there any way to override Zotero's automatic abbreviations? I need to use a custom list. I can't go through and manually change the Journal Abbr field.
  • It's not designed in a user-friendly way at this point, but see Simon's comment here: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/29501/local-list-of-journal-abbreviations/
  • I've just done a little experiment and it looks like this could work for me. My only problem is that, for journals not in my abbrev list, zotero is now dropping words like "and" and capitalizing everything. Can I get around this while also using a custom abbreviations.json?

I don't think so, I believe removing the "and" is hardcoded at least (capitalization might be in the style, though, not sure on that, what are you using?)

edit: though why would you want "and" to stay? What's your use case here?
  • I use American Journal of Archaeology abbreviations which is standard for all Mediterranean/European archaeology. Citations must conform to their list of abbreviations (http://ajaonline.org/submissions/journals-series). All unabbreviated titles are fully written. I understand zotero uses a single abbreviation format, but the one chosen is not applicable to many subjects in the humanities including anthropology/archaeology.
  • Makes sense. Most humanities, thankfully, have the good sense to stay away from journal abbreviations entirely, but that of course doesn't help you here.

Have a look at the abbreviation filter add-on:

while written for MLZ Zotero, it works with regular Zotero and should allow you more control (while working with the same type of JSON lists).
