Bookmarklet not working with Internet Explorer

I am having issues with the bookmarklet to save citation metadata from webpages. I work for a state government agency and we only can use Internet Explorer.

I added the bookmarklet link to my browser's bookmark toolbar. When I have a webpage open (for example: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/fwb.12407/abstract?campaign=woletoc) and I want to save this paper's reference to Zotero, I hit the bookmarklet link. A message then pops up in the bottom right-hand corner that says "Saving item" and the first few words of the paper's title. But the it never actually saves to Zotero (Standalone version - which I have open).

I've used Zotero for years, but always with FireFox. The only way I can get it to work now is to download the PDF of the paper and then rectrieve the metadata from the PDF file. This is okay, but somewhat a pain as I don't always need to download the paper.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

  • if it shows that message (including the article title) it's saving the article somewhere. You're sure you've searched Standalone? Have you checked your Zotero library online?
  • thanks for the reply adam. so apparently it was saving the citation online and now i have to physically hit the "sync" button in the standalone version to had it import the citations.

what's interesting (and why i didn't check this before) is that the "saving item" box never goes away. when i had used zotero with firefox before, it would pop-up, download, and then disappear.

nonetheless, it works. thanks again for your help!
  • you should turn on auto-sync if you haven't already. Yes, the box doesn't disappear when saving to the server, that's a known issue.

With Standalone open, the bookmarklet should find it, but I don't actually know how to troubleshoot it and it's not unlikely that the reason it doesn't is security software in place at your employer.
  • If you go to http://localhost:23119/ in IE with Standalone open, do you see "No endpoint found"?
