Modifying PLOS One to not indent and not split pages

Hello,

I'm using the PLOS One style downloaded from Zotero for my manuscript. I've been asked to modify my references list so that any citations over 100 do not start with an indent, and I've also been asked to not have a citation span more than one page (if it's going to be split between the end of one page and the beginning of one page, then move it all to fit on one or the other). Is this easily accomplishable? I have no experience modifying Zotero styles or settings. Thank you!
  • Neither can be done with the style in Zotero.
The page split issue should be doable in Word: since every bib entry is it's own paragraph, you should be able to set Word (or LibreOffice) to protect paragraphs on page breaks. The how to depends on the word processor, but should be easily googleable.

The other issue I'm not sure I understand, but wouldn't just changing the line feed fix this? (again in Word)

  • Thank you both very much. This was helpful. I'm not sure what you mean by the line feed. Zotero seems to automatically indent citations over 100. I can't adjust the spacing of the tab because it still looks like two spaces even if I shrink the tab as much as possible (my manuscript reviewer said the spacing needs to be consistent across the citations).
  • Which word processor are you using? This probably wouldn't be a Zotero issue, but a setting in your word processor.
  • I mean adjust the ruler (show under view -- Ruler). You can just increase the space between number and bibliography (for the entire bib) - by moving the lower one of the rules arrows to the right. That way larger numbers don't go over that margin and don't cause an indent.
  • I'm using Word 2010 and the newer one (2013?). I'll give the ruler adjustment a shot. Thank you!
  • If you're using Word, then you would be able to adjust it the same way as in the screenshot above. It's under Paragraph -> Indents and Spacing -> Indentation -> Special (Hanging). Bump up the value to like 12mm or whatever works
  • You may need to refresh the bibliography (if you already made manual adjustments to the ruler) using the Zotero's Refresh button
