Zotero and OneNote

Hi everyone,
I am not as knowledgeable about using nifty coding tricks as most people who use Zotero seem to be. But I get by following clear layman language.

I searched the forums for OneNote and Zotero integration and found answers too complicated as I am completely unfamiliar with even basic coding jargon. But if someone could explain to me in basic, really basic, language how one might go about using Zotero in OneNote, I would be ever so grateful. I am on a Mac computer by the way.

Thanks.
  • the answers are in coding jargon because there really is no straightforward way to use Zotero in OneNote. If you can tell use what exactly you're after there may be some things you can do, but not much I'd refer to as "integration."
  • Adamsmith, thank you for your response. I want to be able to add citations within text as you would in Word.
  • yeah, there's no way to do that the same way you do in Word.
You can use quick copy from Zotero directly to OneNote: http://www.zotero.org/support/creating_bibliographies#quick_copy
but that doesn't create actual live citations (i.e. if you insert citations, it won't later be able to insert a bibliography, citations won't refresh with changes you make in Zotero etc.)
  • You can use the Onetastic plug-in for OneNote to identify Zotero links in a page of text and copy them to a sorted references list at the end of the page, but this doesn't format the citations or references. It is also rather tedious to add links to OneNote for this plug-in to be able to sort.

In general, OneNote isn't really designed for intense word processing, so things like formatting bibliographies is not well-supported. Unlike Word, OneNote doesn't support a strong plug-in platform, so there isn't really anything that can be developed to mimic the Word Add-In behavior in OneNote.
  • Thank you for that. The quick copy function seems handy. I use word to prepare final drafts of manuscripts, and I use OneNote for getting ideas onto paper and initial drafts so I think it should suffice.
