Galegroup London Times Archive translator issue

I am also having problems with the Galegroup translator. Specifically with the Times Digital Archive database.

Importing multiple items at once with the folder address bar icon is not working. It says "could not save item. an error occurred..."

This is the error report (Report ID 1447784868):

[JavaScript Error: "Translator called select items with no items" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/translation/translate.js" line: 458}]

Importing single items is also not working properly. I am getting the newspaper icon, but every different article I try is saving as the article "Footnotes to History" at the URL http://find.galegroup.com/ttda/infomark.do?&source=gale&prodId=TTDA&userGroupName=msu_main&tabID=T003&docPage=article&searchType=&docId=CS269428860&type=multipage&contentSet=LTO&version=1.0

I am accessing the Times Digital Archive at the Michigan State University Library via http://ezproxy.msu.edu:2047/login?url=http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/msu_main?db=TTDA

I have Zotero for Firefox and I am running Firefox version 24.0 and Zotero version 4.0.12. I am on a Windows 7 PC.

Importing multiple items is my highest priority, if you can provide any help with this it would be much appreciated. I will also report this error to Gale technical support.
  • should be fixed. update your translators from the general tab of the Zotero preferences, reload the page, and try again.
  • It works now. Thank you so much!!! Your wonderful and fast help is much appreciated.
  • I am having a problem similar to Hailey's regarding saving citations from the Times Archives, though I am using Zotero 4.0.11 Standalone with the Google chrome extension.

This is the info for the article I am trying to save:
    "The Times, Friday, Jul 31, 1914; pg. 7; Issue 40590; col G
Dominion Rally. Canadian Militia Council Convened., Active Preparations. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.).
    Category: News"

A Zotero icon appears in the search bar "Save to Zotero (InfoTrac via Zotero Standalone)" but when clicking an error occurs. This is the error message:
[JavaScript Error: "citation is not defined" {file: "C:\Users\RyanKav\AppData\Roaming\Zotero\Zotero\Profiles\7y89lc3f.default\zotero\translators\InfoTrac.js" line: 81}]

Am I doing something wrong here or is the chrome extension bugged? Thanks in advance for all help in this matter.

What's the URL you are importing from (exactly as you see it)? And what do you search for to arrive at that article?

(nvm, I think I found the article)
  • @aurimas - this looks generally broken for me, even in Firefox. If you can take this that'd be great.
  • Yeah, I just looked at it. Even if I fix the immediate error, the metadata is horrible. We'll probably have to rewrite this.

@RyanCKavanagh, sorry, but this may take a while.
  • No worries, gotta say I've LOVED Zotero otherwise and am really impressed by the rapidity of attention this got.

I've got pretty much no software ability, but if there's anything that can be done in helping fix please let me know.
  • Like Adam said in November, I can't get the GaleGroup translator to work with the Times Archive in either Firefox or Standalone.

Are you still planning to work on this, Aurimas, or is the metadata too horrible to be fixed? :)
  • TDA should be working now. Update your translators via Preferences -> General -> Update Now.
