Problems Syncing

I have had a complicated night. I installed Zotero on a laptop after doing a fresh re-install of windows. At first it said that I had no internet connection. I turned off proxy setting on Chrome and then I got an error saying that my SSL certificate is invalid.

I turned off my windows 7 firewall and then the error went back to no internet connection. I then turned off proxy server for the LAN settings in windows 7 and the sync seemed to work for a second. It pulled in my documents but then it suddenly stopped again complaining that there was no internet connection. The consistently changing reason for the error and the fact that it worked briefly leads me to believe that the error is something on Zotero's end.

The program won't even generate an error ID for me. It says "invalid response from the repository." I don't know of anything else left for me to disable. I don't know what on my end might be interfering with the connection.
