Font Size of Selected Text Pasted to Notes

Hello,

Admittedly, I'm still learning the best way to use Zotero. (Which I am definitely appreciating :)

One major use I put it to is to cut and paste text I've highlighted from attached pdfs. The frustration I'm having is that I have no control over the font size of these pasted selections. Arbitrary font size decreases overall readability for sure, but worse, the font is often so small I can't possibly read through the notes I've collected!

I either need control over the font size of these pastings, or I need to be able to zoom in on the text in order to read it. Alternatively, all my pastings could go in at the font size I set in preferences, not just my personal typings.

I appreciate any feedback along this thread. Thank you!

As long as we're allowing rich text copying, we don't really have control over the pasted font size, though it'd help if you'd tell us what platform you're on, what program you're copying from, and a sample PDF for which this occurs.

If you don't need rich text, the easiest solution is to highlight the pasted text and press the eraser button in the note editor toolbar, which will clear all pasted styling, probably including font size.

Also, I assume you're aware that you can change the note font display size in the Zotero preferences? That will control the default, though pasted text could still be different.
  • Hi Dan, thanks for your response. The eraser button did it!

What are the consequences of erasing rich text? Are there other options to play with?

Another minor annoyance I get when pasting is the addition of two--I'll say--returns randomly placed between the paragraphs above. Which means I have to go up and delete these spacings, another 6 clicks or so with every paste.

    I appreciate your guidance!

Platform: MacBook, OS X 10.9.4, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7.
    Zotero version: Standalone
    Program copying from: Preview 7.0

Well, just what it looks like — it'd clear bold, italics, font sizes, colors, etc., and leave you with just plain text.

That too would just be due the formatting of whatever you're copying from. Generally speaking, copying from a PDF will give you worse results than copying from a web page or word processor document.

Provide the URL where you downloaded one of these PDFs, along with an example of what you're trying to copy.
