Conflict between Firefox-Zotero and Freestanding-Zotero

Hi Zotero Community,

I have interwoven problems.

#1: When I recently updated Firefox and Zotero, somehow I ended up with two copies of Zotero. One runs in Firefox at the bottom of the screen, the other is the Freestanding app (in recent years I was only using the freestanding app). Only the free-standing version has access to my library.

#2: When I try to automatically save references (e.g. from a library web catalog) they don't get saved into the Freestanding Zotero, where the rest of my library is. Sometimes they end up in the in-browser version. Someetimes nothing seems to happen.

How can I eliminate the Zotero version that runs in the Firefox window and get files saving to the free-standing Zotero app again? Thanks for your thoughts.

Best,
Bernard
  • Set them both to the same Zotero data directory in the Advanced -> Files and Folders pane of the Zotero preferences — if you use Standalone more, probably to its data directory. (Note that this is the default behavior, so if they're pointing to different directories you said no when it first asked you.)
  • Hi Dan,

Thanks, with a little fiddling your advice fixed everything. Not sure how I fumbled setup but I'm grateful for your aid.

    Best,
    Bernard
