Zotero sync server did not accept your username and password - deleted something important?

I was helping to set up a new group user...we downloaded the software etc but didn't change the data directory from the default firefox profile folder (we work on a Cloud IT system so set the data directory of each user to a folder on each user's personal drive since we can't access the default data directory folder and we used to get messages saying the folder was full). The first time it tryed to download data from the server it saved files in the default profile folder...then we got the same error about the folder being full.

So, as soon as realised, we then changed the data directory to the different drive (should have done this from the start!) and our IT dept deleted the zotero folder in the original location (although there was no 'storage' folder in there?). Then we got this error:

The Zotero sync server did not accept your username and password. Please check that you have entered your zotero.org login information correctly in the Zotero sync preferences.

Re-entered the details but no luck. Has something important been deleted? What should we do? Could/should we delete everything and start again? Or restore from the server (the new user has only added 1 item which is now on the server anyway)?

Many thanks,
Ali
  • That message tends to mean what it says, so it's quite likely you're just entering the details incorrectly.

Delete both fields completely, restart Firefox for good measure, and then try again. If you're still getting the message, provide a Debug ID for a sync attempt that produces that error.
  • Thanks. When she re-opened Firefox, Zotero seemed to have dissapreared. Then she re-installed and it wouldn't accept the password at first (the exact same details worked on the Zotero website) but then it did accept them. Now there'a another issue I would appreciate your advice on:

Sometimes when I click away from the sub-folder I’m viewing (e.g. one on hormone therapy) to go to the main group library folder (top-level) sometimes there nothing in that folder. I have tried syncing again and it doesn’t affect it. This also happens (although not all the time) when I click away from the top-level folder to a subfolder. I’ve tried restarting firefox and sometimes it works for a bit and then starts doing this again, and sometimes this happens when I start it. It’s been freezing a lot too.

Anything you can think of to fix it?

    Thanks
