Edit automatic bibliography

Hello,

I'm trying to organize my bibliography thematically. As I enter new citations in the text, I want to move the subsequent bibliographic entry (found in the automatically created list in Word) into a thematic section of my Bibliography.

The problem: Every time I hit "refresh" for the Bibliography, the original, automatically formed list repopulates.

Is there any way to make sure that "refresh" updates a Bibliographic entry that has already been moved?

It's frustrating to think that I have to wait until the end of my research to organize the Bibliography...

Thanks in advance!
  • I don't believe there is a way to manually re-sort the bibliography and not have those changes be overwritten, sorry. You could consider not using the automatic feature at all, but instead adding items you cite to thematic (sub)collections in Zotero itself and then generate bibliographies from those. That's what most historians working with complex, sectioned bibliographies do, I believe.
  • Previously I created thematic collections. That said, there is a convenience in the automatic bibliography in knowing that the contents include only cited information in the paper.

Would it be possible to program such an option in the future?
  • Not trivially, no. It'd be impossible for Zotero to know how to handle manually sorted items in relationship to automatically sorted items.

Very generally speaking, we would like to add better support for sectioned bibliographies, but that's still way out.
