Partial Purge

I understand that I can click on "Purge Storage" on the Zotero website to remove all my data from my online library while keeping all the data on my computer. Is it possible to only purge some data but not others? If I add additional files on my computer after purging, is it possible to only sync these added files on my online library?

Thanks!
  • no. What's the purpose of this?
  • That is because there's only certain documents which I would like to be accessible online?
  • As I said, the answer to the technical question is no. Whether there is a workaround really depends on the details of what you're after (is this for security/privacy, or to not have to pay for storage, or for yet another reason?)
  • It's both confidentiality and space limit. I'm hoping to add some confidential report to my computers library without having them uploaded to the web since they are both confidential and would exceed my capacity.

Thanks again for your response to the question.
  • If your primary concern is the files (which is all Purge Storage relates to) and not the item metadata, your best is probably to store those specific files elsewhere and save them as linked file attachments, which don't sync to the Zotero servers.
  • store those specific files elsewhere and save them as linked file attachments, which don't sync to the Zotero servers.
Doesn't Zotero index linked attachments? You would then also want to disable syncing of full text index.
  • Yes, that's right.
  • I couldn't find out where "disable syncing of full text index"

This link suggest that linked file will not be synced?
    https://www.zotero.org/support/attaching_files
  • Right, linked files are not synced. But, Zotero indexes all files (linked or not) and as of 4.0.13 syncs the indexed contents to the server (that doesn't count towards storage quota). If you are concerned about privacy though, you can disable it via Preferences -> Sync -> "Sync Full-Text Content" (uncheck it).
  • Thanks again for the help!
