No toolbar in Word 2010

Hello everyone,

I work with Windows 7, Word Office Professional Plus 2010, Zotero Standalone 4.0.20 with the plugin version 3.1.16.SA.4.0.20.

I can't get the Zotero Word plugin to work: there is no Zotero toolbar in the ribbon, even after restarting my computer. In fact, there is no "add-ons" tab either, even when I tick the corresponding box in in the ribbon customization options.

There is a Zotero.dot file in the AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP directory. I tried to reinstall it through the Add-ons manager in Zotero Standalone, but it didn't change anything.

I also tried to follow the instructions here: https://www.zotero.org/support/windows_word_plugin_manual_installation_instructions
but there was no "extension" folder in my Zotero profil (AppData\Roaming\Zotero\Zotero\Profiles\...)

Everything worked fine on my previous computer (with Windows XP).

Does anyone have an idea on how to make it work?
  • In Standalone, reinstall through Preferences -> Cite
  • Thank you,
I already did that (many times…) and also tried restarting my computer right after reinstalling, but it still didn't work.

    Is Zotero.dot listed under File -> Options -> Add-ins ?

Edit: Sorry, that's File menu in Word
  • if not, you'd have to find a way to make the manual install work. What exactly do you see in the Zotero profile folder?
  • Yes, Zotero.dot is listed in the add-ins menu in Word. Does it mean the problem is with Word?
In my Zotero profile folder, there's a whole bunch of files and only one folder; I don't remember its name, I'll check it Monday when I'm back to work!
  • It's listed in Word? Is it enabled? Is it enabled in in View -> Toolbars?
  • (and since it's listed, you can disregard the manual install. If that were the problem you wouldn't see Zotero.dot appear in Word).

    Thank you all,
So first, in my zotero profile, there is only a "zotero" folder (that contains the "locate", "styles" and "translators" folders). But I guess that since the manual install won't help me, this clarification is not really useful.
There is no View -> Toolbars in Word 2010, but I did try to enable the Add-ins tab in the ribbon, where the zotero toolbar is supposed to be.
    Any other idea ?

Edit: and I forgot to say that zotero.dot model is enabled in the complements menu
  • All right,
After disabling a few COM add-ins related to our local business software package, the zotero model works just fine!

    Thanks again for your help!
  • cool. If you can trace this to a particuar add-in, that would be good to know. And those were Office add-ins?
  • So the record, the COM add-in in question is named "WordCSWAddIn" and comes from Intersystems' Clinicom software package (patient administration system for French hospitals).
    Maybe it'll help someone…
