exporting to EPPI reviewer

Hi

I am trying to export an RIS file to EPPI reviewer or to a stand alone file on my machine which I can then move into EPPI reviewer. But when i try to do this it asks me if i want to export from www.zotero.org to Zotero which i do not want to do. It also says i can change this automatic setting in my preferences but i have search this numerous times but can not see where i can change it. When i do allow this operation the file just duplicates itself. This is a little strange because if i want to export a file the last thing i would want to do is export it back into itself.

I would be grateful of any help.

Thanks Ali
  • Assuming this is Zotero for Firefox, there's a "Use Zotero for downloaded BibTeX/RIS/Refer files" checkbox in the General pane of the preferences.
  • And it's not "duplicating" itself — that setting applies to any RIS file from any website, allowing you to import the contents into Zotero. Zotero doesn't do something special when the file is from zotero.org.
  • Ah ok thanks So I uncheck that box
  • Hi I am using Zotero for Firefox and I unchecked that box but it still asks me if i want to import into Zotero

What's the exact message you're getting? You should be able to just save the RIS file to disk and open it in whatever program you want.
  • The message is as follows:

Do you want to import item from "web.b.ebsohost.com.proxy.lib.ul.ie" into Zotero?
You can disable automatic RIS/Refer import in the Zotero preferences

I get the same if i try to move it from Zotero but it is

Do you want to import item from "www.zotero.org" into Zotero?
You can disable automatic RIS/Refer import in the Zotero preferences.

Normally I would but in this case i want the file to be saved to disc or put straight into EPPI-review

You're getting that message after disabling the checkbox? Have you restarted Firefox (though you shouldn't need to, and the behavior changes for me without restarting)?

Can you provide a Debug ID for clicking on a RIS file that triggers this?

I'd like to debug that setting if disabling it isn't working for you for some reason, but note that, even if it's enabled, you can almost always just right-click on the RIS link and save that to disk with a .ris extension. Zotero won't offer to intercept the file if you do that. (Again, though, simply disabling the checkbox should work.)

(We should also pass the file on to Firefox normally if Cancel is clicked in that dialog, though. I've created a ticket for that.)
  • Hi Dan

It works now that i have restarted Firefox i no longer get the message and i can put the file anywhere i want, in RIS format. Once I have finish doing what I want to achieve here for this systematic review i guess that i should re-check that box so Zotero recognizes and intercepts files as normal. Do you want me to try and do Debug ID?
  • no, if this works after restart I don't think there's a need for debug. Thanks, though.
(whether you want to re-check the box depends on what you want/need. As we have more and more pages covered by translators, I'm not using that option much anymore, so it depends).

But note that, I said above, you can leave the checkbox enabled and simply right-click on a RIS link and save it to disk, which circumvents that feature. (This works as long as there's a direct link to the RIS, as on zotero.org. On some sites the RIS file is served indirectly.)

Anyway, I'm not sure why you had to restart for that setting to take effect, but if it's working as expected now, let's not worry about it.
