no tabs in right window

I'm a new zotero user but couldn't find a solution to this in the forums. I have no tabs in the right hand window (eg for notetaking, etc). I tried disabling firefox extensions but there appeared to be none other than zotero. I also uninstalled and reinstalled both firefox and zotero. I'm using the most recent versions of both. Any ideas most appreciated!

    You do see the Zotero pane pop up when you click on the zotero-icon in the right hand bottom corner of Firefox? Also note (no pun intended) that you only will see tabs in the rightmost column of the Zotero pane if you have selected an item in the middle column.

    Yes, I have zotero opening up as normal and have tried selecting an item in the middle but still get no tabs.

    What kind of item are you selecting? Tabs don't appear for attachment or note items. What do you see in the right pane?
