Error Connecting to Server. Check You Internet Connection.

I recently switch over from Mendeley a month ago. I started having problem with Zotero Standalone 20 days ago with syncing.
I could not retrieve metadata from PDF files, getting an error message [An unexpected error occurred].
I then realized that there is a red exclamation mark on the top right saying [Error Connecting to Server. Check You Internet Connection.]. When I select report error, i get another error message [Invalid response from repository]

Please help. I don't know if switching the default directory may be an issue? I switch the default directory in C: Drive to another folder in D: Drive, but Zotero Standalone had synced fine until recently.
  • There just seems to be some sort of issue with your internet connection (as far as Zotero is concerned) and reinstalling will most likely not fix anything. Try disabling any security software that may be interfering and see if it helps. Also see what happens if you try to visit https://sync.zotero.org

Unlikely to be related to the drives.
Are you using a proxy server when connecting to the internet?
Could you provide a debug ID for a failed sync:

edit: do both this and what aurimas says.
  • when i visit https://sync.zotero.org, I get the message below on the webpage.
    [Nothing to see here.]
  • I tried temporarily disabling my Norton Antivirus Firewall, and Zotero Standalone is able to sync just fine!! I suppose I wall have to turn off my firewall evey time I try to sync with Zotero.
  • You should be able to tell your firewall to let Zotero through. Unfortunately we're not going to be able to walk you through this.
