Mac Plugin for MS 2011

I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro with retina display, and purchased MS Office 2011 in order to be able to continue to use Zotero for citations on my thesis.

I have installed Zotero to my computer, and have been trying to install the Mac Word Plugin to get the toolbar in MS Word to add citations into my document.

However, when I try to open the plugin I get a message from Microsoft Office saying "The Open XML file Zotero-MacWord-Plugin-3.5.7-2.xpi cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents for the file name might obtain invalid characters (for example, \/). Details: The file is corrupts and cannot be opened."

I click OK then a pop up saying "Word found unreadable content in Zotero..." pops up. I click to YES to try and retrieve the data and get a similar message as before with the Details: "Microsoft Office cannot open this file because some parts are missing or invalid."

I have tried downloading the plugin several times and re-installing it several times. I even wiped Zotero from my computer and tried it again. Do you have any suggestions about how get the plugin to work? I have a lot of citations stored in Zotero, and it would cause me a lot of extra work to have to re-enter all the information into another program.
  • From the installation page:
The word processor plugins are distributed as Firefox extensions, which provide word processor integration to Zotero and install the necessary components into the word processors.
    Also, in case it's relevant:
Zotero Standalone Users: Word processor plugins are included with Zotero Standalone, and can be installed from the Zotero preferences. Plugins on this page are for Zotero for Firefox only.
