Firefox 3.0 does not show Zotero Icon in location bar

I have just updated to Firefox 3.0 and installed Zero 1.06 but the Zotero Icon does not appear in the Firefox Location Bar as I was lead to expect. I have tried resetting the translators in the Zotero preferences, but this makes no differences. Any help please?

The icon only appears on certain sites. What URLs are you trying? For a test, try an Amazon product page or a BBC news article.

I also updated and have lost the icon (on Amazon.) As someone who's not terribly computer savvy, I need very simple and clear instructions as to what to do. Can you help?
  • Try disabling all your other Firefox extensions.
  • OK. It's back again. Thank you.
  • Which extension was the problem? The Youlicit extension is known to cause this problem, but there may be others.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried disabling all my FF extensions and that made no difference. I then tried a number of URL's and so far the only ones that produce the icon are - as you say - BBC News articles and Amazon products, Oh and Wiki. Will try more but seems a bit disappointing.

Just out of curiosity, what were you expecting?

Zotero has "translators" that allow it to detect metadata on the vast majority of library catalogs and popular databases and a wide array of other sites (journals, newspapers, magazines, etc.), as well as sites with embedded metadata in various formats.

If you just want to save a random web page, use the Create New Item from Current Page button on the Zotero toolbar.
  • Many thanks for your answers - I take your point,
  • You can also consult this partial list of supported sites.
  • Hm. I looked at that list of known issues, and I run none of the listed ones. That little book does not appear anywhere.
  • Still nothing. I disabled every thing, checked the integrity, etc. There's a grand total of one page (and this was previous to disabling everything) that showed that little icon--which was on one page on the Zotero site. Help?
  • What sites are you trying? In another post you mentioned CNN, for example, which isn't a supported site. Have you tried a New York Times article, Amazon product page, library catalog, etc.?

  • Yes, actually. Before I puttered over here, I checked NYT and a couple of other places on the list. Nada.
  • Run Zotero with debug output enabled, load a few supported sites, and send the output to support@zot....org.
