New Item Type: Data

I would like to suggest that Zotero include an item type for Data. My academic work, and I am sure I am not alone, requires extensive use of data which I must document via citations. Currently I save this in Zotero as a "Document" item type, but it would be great to have a "Data" item type with the pertinent fields. Thanks.
  • Zotero will get a dataset item type, most likely in version 4.2
  • Hi Adam,

Any update on the dataset item type? Is this still scheduled for V4.2.

Is there a draft of the format somewhere for comment?

I work for Australian National Data Service and we are the authorised DataCite DOI Registration Agency in Australia and have a very keen interest in this topic.

We also run a national research data portal http://researchdata.ands.org.au/ and would like to have rich data citation exports available for our users. Up until now we have been exposing the data citation information though the DC metadata format but this does not export well.

Any update you could provide would be great.

    Cheers
    Joel
  • yes, that's still the status. There is no ready template, the relevant ticket is here: https://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/issues/22 and it's going to boild down to modelling this closely after the datacite model, with potentially some additional fields.
  • Fantastic thanks for the quick reply Adam. Yes I stumbled across that ticket but noticed it hadn't been updated in a few years.

Is there a rough release date for 4.2?

no, unfortunately there isn't - the whole field updates have been stuck behind the need for Zotero's sync architecture to be, basically, rewritten, to make that possible. That will be Zotero 4.1 and timing is hard to pin down with Zotero's small team - it's mainly Dan working on the sync re-write.
  • The only progress so far is the addition of the "dataset" item type in CSL 1.0.1.
