Unable to reset from server

Hello -

I've been attempting to reset my library from the server since yesterday morning. All day yesterday the sync icon was spinning with "getting updated data from sync server." I also let it run overnight with no change. However, this morning I got an error - "invalid response from server." I submitted the error report, re-started Firefox, and just started trying to sync it again.

The report ID is 1988289301.

This also appeared with the report ID:

Thank you for your help.
  • You shouldn't have done the reset — you have nearly 93,000 items between your various libraries, and that's extremely unlikely to finish, at least without major coaxing on our part, with the current sync architecture. (There's a reason we strongly discourage using the reset options.) The next major version of Zotero will have a completely new sync architecture that should be much better with huge libraries, but currently all library data is synced at once, and you just have too much of it.

You should restore your local library from a backup.
  • Hi

I am having trouble with syncing Zotero from my PC (main files) to the server. I reset the server, and it is now completely erased however the PC files fail to upload. Thus I am also unable to sync to other computers.

Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you

  • @adityakakati - please start a new thread for anything further, but the error message pretty much tells you what the problem is: You have an item where, apparently, the abstract got moved into the author field and sync fails because it can't handle names that are too long. Find that item by searching for something like "GUWAHATI:" (note that the item may be in the trash) and either delete it (and empty the Zotero trash) or shorten the author.
  • Thanks a lot for your message. Apologies for posting here.

I tried it out and it worked, thanks a lot!
