Zotero for a big dummy
I don't understand how to save a website document to our private group. I can save it to "My Library" but I can't figure out how to transfer it over to the group. I would prefer to originally save it to the group, and bypass My Library, as there is nothing personal I wish to save - only to work with the private group. Thanks for your help
Also, I am having a lot of trouble understanding how to do the most simple things, like save different kinds of documents. Is there a document other than Quick Start, that can help me? Quick Start is too quick - I can't follow it.

adamsmithAnything you save to Zotero will be placed in the currently selected collection. That includes groups - i.e. if you have the group or a collection in a group selected while you save a document it will be placed in that group. You can also just drag&drop items from "My Library" to the group. Note that both of these things refer to the Zotero software - i.e. Zotero Standalone or the Zotero pane that opens when you click on "Zotero" at the bottom right of Firefox. Neither is possible via the website. http://ica.library.oregonstate.edu/tutorials/626--Introduction-to-Zoteroyou could try if you find this clearer:

MausieThanks a lot! I appreciate your quick answer!

vdelafuente4I am struggling with the same problem as Mausie. I cant figure out how to drag my online library into the group library. The drag and drop option isnt seeming to work
-
adamsmithAs I say, above you can only use drag&drop in the actual software - i.e. Zotero Standalone or Zotero for Firefox, not on the webpage. If that's not working, we'll need more of a description of what you're trying.

vdelafuente4edited March 26, 2014Thanks Adam. Ok, I am wanting to transfer all my library items into the a group and I am trying to do this by highlighting my library (the library that pops up from the bottom right zotero icon, not online) but when I try and drag it into the group library, instead of everything transferring over, the web page opens with one of my articles....
-
adamsmithyou need to do this either one-collection at a time or by selecting all items in your library (ctrl+a) and dragging those over. The 2nd option will not transfer collections.
-
adamsmithoh wait - to be sure you're understanding this correctly: the entire drag&drop operation has to occur in the software - i.e. you're dragging&dropping items from your library in the Zotero software to the group in the Zotero software further down in the left-hand panel. If you're doing anything that you could not do while simultaneously looking, e.g., at my post here you're doing something wrong.

MausieAdam, I am still having problems. What would be very helpful is if there is some way to de-alphabetize the folders: e.g. I have six Chapters, each with four sub topics. First of all, I don't know how to drag and drop the folders so that they are in the order I wish, and secondly, Zotero insists on alphabetizing the sub folders!

adamsmiththere is no way to randomly order collections or items, sorry (though if these are chapters, starting with the chapter number should do)
