Reproducible freeze of Zotero (and Firefox) using classic citation dialog in LibreOffice

Reproducible freeze of Zotero (and Firefox) using classic citation dialog in LibreOffice: With the most recent version of Zotero, I encounter a complete Zotero freeze (always reproducible) when performing a standard action in the citation dialog:

How to reproduce:
* In LibreOffice Writer I click on the insert citation button
* The (classic) Zotero citation dialog shows up
* Then I select the library I want to use for citation (at this stage, I must change the library to get the freeze. It does not matter whether it is a local libary or a group library.)
* In the correct library type first character of an author lastname you would like to cite, e.g. "d" for "Dercon"
-> This causes a complete freeze of Zotero and Firefox. One of the CPU cores is at 100%. The freeze never ends and I have to kill Firefox. By the way, there is no freeze, if I scroll manually with the mouse to the entry I want to cite.

I activated the debug log and it actually collects information, but after killing Firefox, the debug log is always empty. Therefore, I started libreoffice -debugzotero and got this here: http://ubuntuone.com/2RrgcPl84xmQQbPFz6DAFC

Is there any solution for this freeze? Thanks!

Versions:
Zotero version 4.0.19 and LibreOffice Integration 3.5.9
Firefox 26.0
LibreOffice 4.1.4.2
Ubuntu 13.04, 64-Bit, Gnome3
  • There's not enough output there to see what's happening. Can you increase your scrollback buffer and try again?
  • Hi Dan, thanks for your reply. I increased the scrollback buffer: This log is much longer: http://ubuntuone.com/5oQ8ap71F2ZfDHSnvWbjEm
  • I have created a small screencast of the freeze together with the Ubuntu System Monitor (1min 5sec): http://ubuntuone.com/0P7dQ6GtKXxsWa9fE8Cj21
After selecting with the mouse the entry author "BADU", I type the character "m" on the keyboard (at 15sec in the screencast), because I want to jump to author "Macke", but before Zotero jumps there, it freezes.

Ah, OK, thanks — I can reproduce that on OS X. At least in my case, there's not actually any output after it freezes. I suspect there isn't for you either and the output you provided is just from before the freeze.
  • Yes, I think that there didn't come any new lines in the log output during/after the freeze. The log just stopped in the second of the freeze.
  • Just tell me, if you need any further information.
  • OK, this should be fixed in the latest 4.0 Branch dev XPI. It occurred, as you said, only after switching collections within the classic Add Citation dialog and then trying to navigate via the keyboard.
  • Dan, thanks a lot for the fix! I think I will wait for the next release, because I need Zotero everyday and cannot risk any loss or something like that.
