Problem with JSTOR

I've never had problems saving JSTOR articles/reviews in my Zotero library before, but yesterday and today it just refuses to work!

I'm on a Mac (OS X 10.7.5), using Safari and the standalone version of Zotero.

First, when I clicked the toolbar icon to save the citation and PDF, it gave me the error message in the bottom right. Followed the link to the common errors page, which said that I needed to accept JSTOR's terms and conditions... except, I already had.

I updated to the most recent version of Zotero, but no change, so I just shut down for the night.

Today, it's no longer giving me the error message... it just won't save the article. The little red box pops up in the bottom right, says "Saving Item..." and then doesn't. It's working fine for other online sources, so at this point I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks for your help!
  • as sample URL that you've tried, exactly as you see it?
  • Here's an article; I would like to save the citation/PDF:

    http://www.jstor.org.proxy2.cl.msu.edu/stable/30223443
  • I'm not a Safari expert, but one thing to check are the Safari cookie settings: Zotero must be able to set cookies for this to work, especially when you're using a proxy, so for troubleshooting at least, set this to the most permissive settings available and see if that helps.

If it doesn't we'd like a debug ID from the Safari connector that covers loading and trying to import that page:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output#zotero_connectors_chrome_and_safari
  • I set it to the most permissive settings for cookies; no change.

I've been running "Debug Output Logging" for 15 hours... says it's got 15,731 lines logged and counting. I clicked "submit to Zotero server," and I clicked "view output," but it has not provided me with a Debug ID, so I'm not sure what to do now.

Tried linking from JSTOR again... the error message has returned: "An error occurred while saving this item. Check Known Translator Issues for more information."

Translator Issues page says: "Only saves PDFs after manually clicking “OK” to the terms and conditions once in the session. Workaround: Manually download one PDF during each session; all subsequent ones should work fine."

I had just accepted the terms and conditions and manually downloaded a PDF... still won't cooperate.
  • You don't need to let it run for that long. A minute or two is sufficient. Also re-read the instructions in adamsmith's link. You're supposed to submit the log to zotero (not open it) and post the ID here.
  • I did submit the log to Zotero, the problem is that it did not provide me with a debug ID. That's the only reason I left it running... I thought it might be possible that it would provide an ID later. It hasn't.
  • So after clicking "Submit to Zotero Server" you did not get a pop-up message saying "Debug output has been sent to the Zotero Server. The Debug ID is...."? Try submitting it again and see if anything pops up.
  • No, I did not get that pop up message. I've clicked the button probably 10 times since yesterday, and nothing.
  • Do you have any other Safari extensions? Try disabling them.
  • Nope, no other extensions. Pop-ups are enabled. Cookies are permitted, etc.
