Zotero Storage discrepancy vs in-application ref count

Hi

I have 980 items in a backup storage folder, as well as the current storage folder in Zotero. Using both firefox and standalone..

When I doublecheck my references within Zotero, I only find 794 references, thus I am missing some. Is there any way I can identify which? As in a comparison, or rebuild db..

Many thanks, John
  • the number discrepancy between _files_ in the storage folder and _items_ in Zotero doesn't mean anything: if e.g. 186 of those items have two attachments, you'd end up with 980 folders in storage and 794 (top level) items in Zotero.
If you have reasons to believe that there's something missing there are ways to get advanced search to show you the exact number of attachments in Zotero, but unless you have a specific reason to believe something is wrong there's no need for that.
  • Oh, grand. I didn't realise Zotero used a separate folder for the attachments, I thought it was for the Record... containing any and all attachments.. Thanks for that..

How do I doublecheck that I have all entries and attachements with advanced search.. I had to do an emergency restore of a computer, and I'm not sure all references made it across.
  • You do an advanced search, set Match to "Any" and then add search condition for
    Attachment File Type is ...
for all available options (i.e. all 7)
    Leave all boxes unchecked.
Then create a saved search and in that saved search select all (ctrl+a or cmd+a) note that only the attachments are selected. The item count on the right will be 980 (but really there is no need - if(!) you lost anything during the restore, you lost both the file and the database entry. It's quite hard to get orphaned files in the storage directory)
  • Thanks for that Adam.

I wont worry too much about it then. I don't know what the count was before the crash, so I'm not certain I lost anything.

Thanks for the quick and comprehensive help, John
