Automatic Updates = "On" but no auto updates

Within FF add-ons manager, I have the automatic update option set to "on" but I never receive an automatic update.

I'm on the beta channel now but this never worked when I used the regular release channel.

I learn about updated versions by reading the forum and have to download the new version manually. (This is why I've suggested a line on the website with the current version numbers.)

Any suggestions? FF 27.0.1, Zotero for FF 4.0.18-beta.r11+7a83a57 but until a few moments ago the Zotero version was 4.0.18-beta.r4 d966166.

edit: Mac OS 10.9.1

I use Zotero throughout each day. I restart FireFox two or three times a day.
  • hard to say - when you use "check for updates" in the add-ons manager, does that work, or do you actually need to download? (FWIW, 7a83... is the current beta, looks like this hasn't been built after the last commit).
  • Yes. Zotero updates correctly with "check for updates" but I don't always want to update all the add-ons, just the ones I trust not to gum things up.
  • so you have auto updates off in general but have them turned on specifically for Zotero under "Show more information"?
  • Yes. Those are my settings. Some other add-ons are set as "No". Other are set as "Default".
  • and to be sure I have that right, you have the generic setting to auto update checked or not?

Generally I'd be very surprised if this were a Zotero issue - the process of checking for updates is really quite straightforward. It's possible you've hit a combination in mozilla that doesn't work reliably.
  • I have set add-ons to "Update add-ons automatically" from the add-ons gear menu. Under Zotero-more I have Automatic Updates set to "On". I suspected that automatic updates didn't work because I downloaded Zotero from the Zotero website, but now I realize that shouldn't matter.
  • the update location is specified in the update rdf:
so that shouldn't matter. Try setting Zotero --> more to "Default" - (which is already to auto-update) maybe the double "yes" causes problems.
  • I'll try that. The verdict must be delayed until another update. I'll report again at that time.
