Hanging on keypress (name search)

I can't find this problem anywhere in the forums, but it may be that I'm not thinking about it the right way. I hope you can please help me fix it. I can consistently hang Firefox by doing the following: sorting the list view by Creator, tapping anywhere in the main view pane, and then hitting a letter on the keyboard. I used to be able to navigate through my author list this way, but no longer. It happens in the old-style citation dialogue, as well (I still use that all the time, because I need to work with a lot of distinct but almost identical items). Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? I've been using the field box as a workaround, but it's much less convenient.

    ps: It affects Mac and PC (XP and 8.1) equally, latest version of Firefox and Zotero both.

    works for me on Windows 8 & Linux. Could be there's something in the error report, Dan would have to say, but otherwise: try disabling all add-ons, see if that makes a difference.
    Also, your thread title says "hanging" - are you saying that Firefox/Zotero freezes when you try this? Briefly or permanently?
