Zotero not saving PDF + bogus Accession/no values notes (Report #634416928)

Zotero is not saving PDF files from EBSCOHost entries, and is saving two bogus notes with each entry: Accession Number and "The following values have no corresponding Zotero field"

I'm using Zotero v. 4.0.17.1 on Firefox 26.0 on Mac OSX 10.9.1.
I'm accessing EBSCOHost using my school's proxy:
http://library.gcu.edu:2048/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=bth&AN=6457338&site=eds-live&scope=site

I've reported the errors via the Zotero interface, report #634416928.

When I export the article from the detailed record page, I select:
"Save citations to a file formatted for:

Direct Export in RIS Format (e.g. CITAVI, EasyBib, EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, Zotero)"

I have the box checked: "Automatically attach associated PDFs and other files when saving items."

I'm most interested in the PDF files. I can delete the other notes if a solution doesn't exist.

I've seen previous discussions on this issue from 2008-2011 but nothing applicable to more recent versions of Zotero. Some people indicated their issue was resolved with an updated EBSCO translator, others seem to indicate that PDF files cannot be downloaded through the university proxy.

Anyone have any other suggestions?
  • you never get PDFs attached when using the "Direct Export" option from a page. You don't get a Zotero URL bar icon on that page?
  • Adamsmith, thanks for the response. I don't get a Zotero URL bar icon on any pages. I've seen Zotero warnings at the top just below the navigation and bookmarks toolbars indicating that a proxy has been associated with a link, but nothing else.

    What should I be seeing?
  • something like this:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/getting_stuff_into_your_library#web_translators
(though in the case of EBSCO you'd see not a book icon, but a lined page for article).
  • When I use Firefox and the Zotero plug in, I can download both a reference, and the PDF associated with the reference. When I use Safari and the Zotero standalone, I am not able to do this. I think I need to define proxies in System Preferences/Network/ Advanced, but have no clue how or what? Help!
  • which database, what's a URL exactly as you see it in Safari?
  • If I use it with Safari, and the item selector it's http://web.b.ebscohost.com.dist.lib.usu.edu/ehost/resultsadvanced?sid=1609c5ce-679f-467a-b481-938cb89de5fb%40sessionmgr112&vid=2&hid=128&bquery=AGENTIC+AND+LEARNING&bdata=JmRiPWV1ZSZ0eXBlPTEmc2l0ZT1laG9zdC1saXZl

If I go to a single article select the Save to Zotero (Ebscohost) it's
    http://web.b.ebscohost.com.dist.lib.usu.edu/ehost/detail?vid=3&sid=2ab5ca63-761d-41af-a74c-abc632d4a8aa%40sessionmgr198&hid=128&bdata=JnNpdGU9ZWhvc3QtbGl2ZQ%3d%3d#db=eric&AN=EJ864316

I have added to System Preferences, Networks, Advanced, Proxies, bypass proxie settings, *.local, 169.254/16, usu.edu

    Thanks for responding.
  • PDF download doesn't work for EBSCO when going through a proxy (the dist.lib.usu.edu part of the URL). You'll either need to do this on campus or via VPN, or use Firefox.
