how to change settings so that "Anon' stops appearing instead of author?

Hello All,
I am having trouble changing the settings of my Zotero setup so that the default author is not 'Anon' for every website I go to? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I am using Harvard format-Staffordshire University.

Thanks!
  • It's coded in the style, there is no Zotero setting to change.
  • Thanks for responding!

Is there any way to change it so that it picks up the info of the author? Is it possible to copy the style and create a new one which will automatically identify the author of the website, video, etc.? If so, how can this be done? I need it in the Harvard-Staffordshire University format, but it needs to show the authors.
  • wait, it doesn't pick up the author? And the author is listed in Zotero? That'd be quite odd.
  • It does not, it just appears as 'anon'. How can I fix this?
  • I'm pretty sure you don't have an actual author listed in Zotero. "Contributors" don't appear in bibliographies. You can change the type of author by clicking on the label in Zotero.
  • Hello,
Here is an example of a reference:

Anon (n.d.). ‘Remarkable’ discovery could shed new light on Mona Lisa - Telegraph. [Online]. Available from: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/art/art-news/9055053/Remarkable-discovery-could-shednew-
    light-on-Mona-Lisa.html. [Accessed: 6 September 2013gw].

I cant seem to remove the Anon and n.d part of it, it just appears like this for every website I visit. I cant find the label you are referring to- all I have been doing is clicking on the add button and changing the type of website/information it is(for eg, video, journal, webpage, book etc.)and adding this to a specific folder. I would really appreciate it if you would be able to tell me how to change the settings to remove the anon default setting.
    Thanks!
  • This has nothing to do with the citation style and there are no settings to change. The problem is what you have in Zotero:

If you just import a webpage Zotero doesn't have any author info. You need to manually add that. Generally you seem to be misunderstanding how adding items to Zotero works, so you may want to read through:

  • Thanks so much! I will have a look at it- (I thought there was an easier way of getting around having to enter data !)
    Thanks!
  • Hello,

I am having the same issues as Shanthi. The authors appear in Zotero, but when it populates into my document they all show anonymous. This has been happening for the past two weeks. Please let me know how to resolve this.

    Thank you
  • 1. Try right-click --> "Create Bibliography from Selected Item" in Zotero and see if that also produces Anon.
2 a) If it does, this is almost certainly the same as above. Please take a screenshot of the item in question, in particular the info pane on the right, upload it to a free image hosting site (imgur.com, dropbox, etc.) and link to it here
2 b) if that shows the author, you're not citing that item in your document. Test in a fresh document.
  • Hi! I had the same problem, but realised that when I added pieces with several authors, I put them all as co-authors, rather than just authors. When I changed them all to be authors, "anon" stopped appearing in Word. Hope this helpes someone!
