Zotero Seems to Only Sync in One Direction

Morning all,

I have recently converted from Endnote to Zotero (Firefox version). I have set up my account, exported my Endnote Library and imported it to Zotero as per the Zotero documentation and all seems to be fine on my home computer. However, I seem to be having difficulty access My Library from my work computer. The only item in My Library I can access from my work computer is Zotero Quick Start Guide. I have tried adding a few trial items to the My Library from my work computer and I can access those items from my home computer so the account information is correct on both computers.

I did have an error message stating that the length of Keywords for a few of my references exceeded the maximum allowable (the abstract had ended up under Keywords for some of my references after exporting from Endnote) and could not by synced. However I presumed that this would only affect selected references and the remainder of My Library should have been synced.

Your thoughts please?

Anthony

no, currently if you get a sync error that will prevent the entire sync to go through. You need to fix this.
  • Wow. That was quick! Will fix this at home and try again. Thanks for your help.
  • the abstract had ended up under Keywords for some of my references after exporting from Endnote
Also interested in how this happened. Could you find the said record in the EndNote's RIS file and paste it here (from TY through ER lines). Is it entered incorrectly in EndNote?
  • Ok guys, here is the text from the RIS file that was created after exporting my Endnote library

Nonlinearity Experiments were conducted on beams with openings spaced at different intervals along the web. It was observed that the OSB fractured from tension zones around an opening, with cracks developing diagonally towards the beam flanges. A beam would collapse when the cracks reached the flanges. Interactions between openings further reduced the load carrying capability of a beam and changed its failure pattern. Using ABAQUS, Finite element models were developed to simulate beam behaviour. Material nonlinearity, fracturing of OSB, crack propagation and beam failure were dealt with by a user subroutine. Good correlation was obtained between test and analytical results. Critical distances between openings were also investigated.

I located the reference in the original Endnote library and discovered that somehow the Abstrast had been saved in the Keywords field hence the error. Most of the data in my original Endnote library is sourced from the 'download bibliography' feature usually available from the journal publisher's website or through sites such as Engineering Village which on time did make this error. I usually pickep up on this straight away but I guess I must have missed a few. Thanks for your help.
  • thanks. I don't think we can do anything about that on import. Let us know if you continue to have sync problems after removing the abstract from the tags.
  • I have corrected any references where the abstract ended up under he Keywords field and everything is working perfectly now. Thanks for the help.
