Import throws JavaScript Error

Hi everyone - I'm in the process of trying to import my references from EndNote (following the directions here: http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/importing_records_from_endnote). I try to import my RIS file, saved as .txt, but the import doesn't do anything. It keeps on logging this error:

[JavaScript Error: "allTranslators[i].importRegexp is null" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/translation/translator.js" line: 286}]

It looks like it's expecting the Chrome extension (which I wouldn't have because I'm using Firefox)? Does anyone know what's going on here? Thanks!
  • chrome:// is the name of a Firefox protocol, don't worry about that.

Does this happen if you try to import the RIS for only one item?

See e.g. what happens if you select everything below (from TY to ER - )
copy (ctrl+c or cmd+c on mac) and then do "import from Clipboard" in Zotero.

  • chrome in that error is not related to the Google Chrome browser.

Looks like something is messed up with your translators. Try resetting them via Preferences -> Advanced -> Files and Folders -> Reset Translators. Give it 10 seconds or so and then restart Zotero. If the issue persists, please submit a Report ID (http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs)
  • Report ID: 240756746

I tried resetting the translators as noted above, but that unfortunately didn't seem to help.

As a note, the copy from clipboard example posted by adamsmith above does indeed work. Importing by clipboard seems to work OK - I'm able to copy the text in my RIS document and import it with that option. Unfortunately, this does not carry over any of my attachments.

    Steps to reproduce -
    1. Create a RIS text file from EndNote X4 as noted in my link above. I'm using the latest RIS style for EndNote, and have edited the style as noted to try and get my attachments to come over.
    2. Hit the gear in Zotero and select the Import... option.
    3. Open the created RIS file.

After this, nothing is imported and the error I note above is logged.
  • You're running Zotero 3.0.3, which was released in February 2012.
  • update by reinstalling from zotero.org/download
  • Ahh, OK, now it works. Sorry for the bother :)
