The Zotero Community is Active. But, How active is the developmment of Zotero? Sure, last version came out on mid-December to 4.0.17.
Is there any news for Zotero 5?

I have some massive changes in progress on master,
but they're not ready to publish. And API syncing is a prerequisite for
full-text content syncing.

(an early version of full text syncing - as you may know - is already live since Zotero 4.0.13. Still based on the "old" sync infrastructure though).
