Data directory location

Hi,

I bought a new laptop and installed Zotero for Firefox. On my old computer I had had my database and files (PDFs and all) stored in Firefox Profile directory on my local disc. Now when I installed Zotero on the new one, a new Profile directory was automatically created.
I would like to link the zotero on new computer to the old Profile directory that is now stored on external HDD. If I understand well, in zotero Preferences on my new computer I should select Custom location and find the old Profile directory on the external disc. But will this be a problem when later I enter the user name and password and zotero syncs with the online library?

    correct. Though if you're not quite sure that the external HD is always going to be plugged in, it may make more sense to transfer the Zotero data directory to the new HD.

    no, why should it? From Zotero's perspective it's still the same database. It doesn't care where on your HDs it is located.

    Ok, great. Then I only need to copy the old Profile directory to the new HD, and might even delete the new profile directory (currently empty) created by the zotero instalation, right?

    yes. See option A here: http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/transferring_a_library
    In other words, you can just replace the "new" directory with the old one.
