Syncing-After Library Deletions-Update Storage Capacity

I deleted files in my Library which were duplicate files in order to empty a large amount of storage space. Zotero deleted the files in both firefox and standalone, but still shows that I am using the storage and that my capacity is at max. I get an error when I try and sync saying the storage if full. How do I get Zotero to see the correct amount of storage/files and let me sync to the Zotero server?
  • Two things:
    1. You can sync even with your file storage full - it just doesn't sync files, data continues to sync
    2. How do you know that you're now under the storage quota? Zotero just stops syncing files once you're over 300MB (or whatever you're paying for). It's very much possible the files you deleted were never on the server or that other files filled up the freed space on the server right away.
  • I want all my files synced.
I have purchased 2 g of data and it shows on Zotero that "My Library" had almost half of that data, a full G, so I deleted almost all of that data as it was already in my group libraries.
  • To make sure - you deleted those files through Zotero, right, not in your file browser?
If so, check what's on the server:
See if the items that you deleted locally are still available through the view of your library on zotero.org
If so, I'd try resetting file sync history from the Reset tab of the Sync tab of the Zoteor preferences.
  • And you emptied the Trash, right?
  • right, that'd be important - Zotero trash, bottom of the left hand panel.
  • I'll try the reset, I did delete them in Zotero.
  • Just reset the _File_ Sync History. Don't reset anything else there.
  • Figured that, already reset, first reset of history didn't work, so I had to reset it sending data from the standalone to the server. now I'm getting error messages that I'm reporting with the link to report. Hopefully it will work itself out, Zotero on Firefox has now changed the amount of data and shows that I have half of my storage available.

Not sure what you mean, but you should post the Report IDs here.
  • I didn't keep that info, sorry, the sync button is still spinning saying it's getting updated information form the sync server

Resetting data was definitely not the right thing to do here, so you may very well have created more trouble for yourself. I would recommend closing Firefox and swapping in the backup database — zotero.sqlite.bak — from your Zotero data directory for the existing zotero.sqlite. (You should make a backup of your entire data directory first.)

Actually, I guess it's too late for that, since it already cleared the data in your personal library. So you'll have to just wait and see if it goes through, which if it stalls could take a day or two.
  • If I have to do that I will, but right now is says upload accepted, waiting for sync server, so I should wait right?
  • I backed everything up on my hard drive before starting this process.
  • See my follow-up post.

Yes, it's now waiting on the server, but due to the size that might not go through today.
  • (The next major version of Zotero will feature a new syncing architecture that should improve things with full-library uploads like this, but right now very large uploads can sometimes stall for days, which is why we specifically say not to use the to/from-server options for troubleshooting. They're also, as in this case, usually totally unrelated to whatever the original issue is.)
