open office could not communicate with zotero

Hello,

my friend is using the zotero standalone with firefox-plugin to work with openoffice.

As i neither have *ever* used your software, nor are at her place, i wont be able to help her with my suggestions. I was trying anyway, so i told her to reinstall both openoffice and zotero to the newest versions... she did but the following problem still appeared when she clicks on the small zotero-symbol in openoffice:

"open office could not communicate with zotero. please ensure zotero or firefox ist open and set to an online state and try again"

She's telling me that everything that has to be activated is activated tho. yesterday it still worked fine. So there might be a bug in the new version i thought..

I hope that you can help me with that litte a information i can offer.
Obviously, it's her turn to answer your additional questions, but for now, as i am miles away and she would need it tonight to finish work until tomorrow, shes down with her nerves for understandable reasons...

Glad you have such an efficient forum tho ;) Is there a known issue or some special openoffice-zotero-upgrade/-version or something? What shall she/i do to fix this?

Thank you in advance
best greetings

Edit: Just fixed some spelling errors
  • What OS is she using? if possible, provide versions for all the software involved (latest version may seem to be the latest version to you, but we'd want to make sure).
  • Make sure she has tried restarting the computer.
Also, make sure she has the word processor plugin installed in Firefox http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation#libreoffice
and if it is installed, have her re-install it from the cite tab of the Zotero preferences (don't just re-install via Firefox). See here:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation#libreoffice
  • First of all, thanks for the answers.
We installed the Plugin from http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation#libreoffice (actually firefox offers to intall it when we open the link, so somehow we did just install it over FF again..?! hehe)
So i asked her to send me all the version numbers and last but not least she needed to install the newest JRE version... strange enough that it worked without java at all so i didn't even asked if it is installed..

    The incompatiblity Error appeared:

"The version of the Zotero LibreOffice Integration component installed within LibreOffice, OpenOffice.org, or NeoOffice does not appear to match the version currently installed within Firefox. Would you like to attempt to reinstall it?

Please ensure your LibreOffice installation is properly detected. If you continue to experience this error, click the "Manual Installation" button within the wizard to show the directory containing the LibreOffice component. Double-click this component or add it from within LibreOffice, OpenOffice.org, or NeoOffice to complete the installation procedure."

She reinstalled it over the button offered in the messagebox and restartet the computer and the answer was the same error, so it seems that we need to manually reinstall one of the components.

Now the installed software versions are:
    Windows 7 Premium with SP1,
    Zotero 4.0.17
    The Plugin from above (v3.5.8)
    with Firefox 26.0
    and OpenOffice 4.0.1

I'll wait for your answer as you helped us to get to this point.

Again, thank you so far! I got a good feeling with this ;)
  • Have you tried following the manual installation instructions?
