Trouble syncing files over WebDAV

Hi,

I went through the steps described here to troubleshoot files that are failing to sync over WebDAV:

http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/files_not_syncing

I confirmed that valid files are making it to the WebDAV server from "Computer A", but I was unable to solve the issue and get the files to download properly on "Computer B".

I have Zotero set up to sync metadata to the Zotero server and attachment files to WebDAV (I am using 4shared.com). In this case, I have had a Zotero standalone library going for a few months on a computer running Windows 7 (Computer A), and now I am trying to set up syncing with that library on Zotero standalone install on Windows 8.1 (Computer B). It appears that all metadata syncs correctly but that for some reason none of the attachment files are pulled down from 4shared on the Windows 8.1 computer.

Here is the debug ID: D1701026084.

Please let me know if I can provide any other info.

Thanks,
Tim
  • Is there either a lastsync.txt or lastsync file in the 'zotero' directory in your WebDAV space? If you synced from another computer, there should be, but 4shared is claiming that there is not, and Zotero won't download any files as long as that's the case (unless you do a Reset File Sync History, explained on the linked page, but that shouldn't be necessary, and if there's no lastsync file after syncing another computer that would suggest a problem with your provider).
  • (And if you do see a lastsync file when you look via the website, then 4shared is falsely claiming it's not there via WebDAV, and you'd have to ask them why.)
  • Hi there,
I have the same problem.I add my PDF then sync it.The file name on the website(4shared) has been changed, e.g.,CSMNK955.zip has been changed to CSMNK955 (1).Zip.I have to change the file name to the origin manually, then I can sync it on the other PC. BTW,there're several lastsync files, such as lastsync.txt,lastsync(1).txt,lastsync(2).txt,etc.

  • Thanks for your response, Dan! As it turns out, I see the same thing as zhswee -- there are 20 lastsync.txt files, it looks like probably one for each sync since I set up the WebDAV. I did try the Reset File Sync History when I started debugging this last night (just before generating the Debug ID in my original post), but it did not help. I wonder if it could it be some sort of permissions issue with 4shared? But that would be very strange since both Zotero installs use the same login credentials.
  • Best I can tell you is not to use 4shared, then, since it seems to be changing filenames at will and not properly reporting when files exist. You need to use a service that acts as a standard WebDAV server.
  • Thanks again for your help! I have a support request in to the folks at 4shared, but in the meantime I switched over to box.com and the WebDAV syncing seems to work well there.
