Problems with editing citations comprised of numerous references

Hello all,
Relatively new user to zotero, and first post. Many thanks in advance for any help.

When I try to edit one of my citations, I get an error message. It reads, "You must place the cursor in a zotero citation in order to edit it."
This occurs in a single large citation (about 40 refs) and it's happened twice now. Seems that once the citation is in place (listed in the text), I cannot come back to edit it.
It does not happen in any other citations (typically 1 to 4 refs).
I checked for zotero updates - it is updated.
I'm using zotero standalone, Openoffice 3.3.0, Windows 7.
Any ideas very gratefully received.

    If you copy that citation and a little bit of surrounding text and paste it into a new document, can you still not edit it? If so, could you share that new document (email it to support@zotero.org or put it on Dropbox or similar and share the link here)?
