Standalone 4.0.17 upgrade creates citation editing problem in tables

Windows 8, Zotero 4.0.17 standalone, Word 2010.

I was working on a summary table in a docx in Word. I updated Zotero when prompted this morning and now I can insert but not edit new citations inside of a table cell. All functions work outside of the table in the same document. Old citations (pre-upgrade) are still editable inside of the table.

Fixes attempted:
Restarted computer
Copied contents of document to a new file (except for bib - inserted new bib).

I'm going to attempt to downgrade since I am in the middle of a project and can't really afford to spend time troubleshooting, but I wanted to report the problem.
  • I just downgraded to 4.0.16 and have the same problem. I started a new document, added a new table, and then added a few random citations. They would edit without problem, so it seems to be specific to adding new citations to existing tables. This is a massive table with dozens of citations. If anyone has any suggestions for resolving the issue, I'd be happy to hear it. Thanks.
  • What exactly happens when you try to edit the citation? Is there an error that pops up? See if you can submit a Report ID (http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs). If you can't, provide a Debug ID for attempting to edit the citation (http://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output)

Also, if there is no visible error, make sure that there is no Zotero popup that is hiding behind other windows
  • Can't believe I forgot the actual error - sorry! I get the "Place cursor in field to edit" error box even though the cursor is in the field.
  • If you press Alt+F9, does that citation change into a bunch of text inside curly braces? (You can press Alt+F9 again to switch back)
  • Yes. And the new fields highlight when the cursor is in it, just like all of the older fields.
  • Could you create a minimal test case (or at least a document you wouldn't mind sharing)? E.g. copy contents to new document and delete as much as you can while still experiencing the editing issue. Then upload somewhere (e.g. Dropbox) and post a link here or email it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.

I tried to create a minimal test case by copying the table over and deleting all but 2 rows. Maddeningly, when the citations updated to account for the deleted citations, the problem citation became editable. I have not been able to reproduce this "fix" in the original file, so I sent the whole file to support. I'm guessing this means there is a problem with the original file.
