Database upgrade error

My stand alone Zotero won't open and give me the following message:

Database upgrade error

[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80630001 (NS_ERROR_STORAGE_BUSY) [mozIStorageConnection.commitTransaction]" nsresult: "0x80630001 (NS_ERROR_STORAGE_BUSY)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/db.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 497" data: no] [ERROR: database is locked]

I noticed that it was upgraded from 4.0.08 to 4.0.11 around 10/9 but I thought I had opened Zotero since then and it was working fine. Help?
  • Have you tried restarting your computer?

    Is your Zotero data directory in its default location, or have you moved it elsewhere?
  • I should have remembered the first rule of thumb with computers - when it doesn't work, reboot.

    Thanks - restarting the computer worked.
  • My Zotero (both the stand alone and the firefox add-on) won't open and gives me this message:

    Database upgrade error
    [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [mozIStorageConnection.rollbackTransaction]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/db.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 538" data: no] [ERROR: cannot rollback - no transaction is active]

    Restart does not help.

    Any ideas?
  • you've tried restarting your computer?
  • That error is probably unrelated to the OP's, so please start a new thread if restarting your computer does not help.

    While you're at it, please make sure that your Zotero for Firefox is up to date (4.0.16).

    Also, try using the Database Repair Tool (please post the Debug/Report ID that page generates). You will need to locate your Zotero data directory (if it is inside a Dropbox folder or a network location, please let us know). If you can't find it using the directions on that page, you can search your entire computer for a zotero.sqlite file.

    Finally, if you have a backup of your old database, you can try to restore it. You can also try to restore a database from an automatic backup.

    Again, please continue in a new thread.
