Zotero integration error on Zotero stand alone

Hi:

I receive this error in Zotero Standalone (which was working fine two days ago):

"Zotero could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Please ensure that the appropriate extension is installed and try again."

I'm using Zotero Standalone 4.0.13 on Microsoft Office Word 2010 and Google Chrome as my internet browser, on a Windows XP machine.

I've so far (1) restarted MS Word (2) restarted Zotero standalone (3) checked for updates in Zotero standalone.

I checked the add-ons in zotero and there is no word integration add on listed (there is a Microsoft office one). Not sure if it is the same thing or the add on has disappeared or how I might reinstall it.

The Zotero.dot add on is listed when I check addons through Word.

I appreciate any help. Thanks!
  • I checked the add-ons in zotero and there is no word integration add on listed (there is a Microsoft office one).
What is listed, exactly? We need the exact text you see on screen.
  • (Do you mean that there's a LibreOffice one listed?)
  • "Zotero could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Please ensure that the appropriate extension is installed and try again"
  • The addons listed are:

Microsoft office 2010 add on 14.0.4761.1000
    file: NPSPWRAP.DLL

Microsoft office 2010 add on 14.0.4730.1000
    file: NPAUTHZ.DLL

The other addons present are: Adobe Acrobat, Citrix Webex, Google Eart, Google Update, Itunes, JAVA, Microsoft DRM, Quicktime, Picasa, Shockwave, Windowsmedia player, Windows Presentation foundation
  • You want to look in the Extensions tab, not the Plugins tab.
  • Independent of this, you should also update to Zotero 4.0.16, which contains many bugfixes
  • There were no extensions listed.

I updated to Zotero 4.0.16 and now everything works again.

Why did the extension disappear in any case??
  • Either you or something else (e.g., security software) could have removed them, some files in your Zotero profile directory could have become corrupted... Hard to say, but I can't recall our hearing of this before, so it was likely something on your system. If it happens again, let us know.
