zotero missing refrences

my zotero is not working properly, almost more than half of the documents are not showing in the library. the refrence format bar is also showing only " cell", APA and other citation format are all gone. i dont know what to do
  • restart Zotero/Firefox and provide an error report ID:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs#provide_a_report_id
  • thankyou for the response,

i have tried to sent the error report but its not sumbitting, however following message is coming in the error pop up window

    [JavaScript Error: "not well-formed" {file: "moz-nullprincipal:{10fef748-f1c2-4d27-8df1-b22c1fcb3624}" line: 1 column: 1 source: ""}]

what is this? and can you help me to sort it out.
  • Is there anything unusual about your Zotero installation? E.g. do you have your data directory in a custom location? Which?

Do you have the most recent Zotero version? You should have version 4.0.16

If neither of these applies, just try re-installing Zotero. While you should always have a back-up of your important data, re-installing Zotero will not affect your data.
  • Are there any other messages in that Error Report window?

Make sure you are running the latest version of Zotero (4.0.16) if not, install it from http://www.zotero.org/download/.

Disable any security software (antivirus, firewall, etc.) that may be interfering with Zotero.

Make sure your data directory is not in an odd location, like a network share or a Dropbox folder (http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data).

Perform a database integrity check via Preferences -> Advanced -> Files and Folders -> Check Database Integrity.

If none of those help, send your debug log (instead of sending to the server, click View Output, and copy the contents) to support@zotero.org for the action of attempting to submit an Error Report (i.e. what you have already tried doing: Gear menu -> Report Errors...)
  • thanks a lots guys for the feedback,

well there was not any other message in the error box.

    1) i have kaspersky antivisrus installed on my system.

    2) last week my system was giving some problems so i sent it to my IT department, when it came back it has now zotero for firefox as well as zotero standalone?

are both/ one of above issues can be root cause of my problem. if yes how can i resolve it
  • same problem with both Standalone and the Firefox plugin?
  • my version is 4.0.12
  • please update to make sure both versions of Zotero are 4.0.16
  • yes, standlone is showing my database but when i tried to insert the refrences, it didn't work.
  • ok i will update and inform you, hope it will work.
  • For the time being, let's stick to Zotero for Firefox and not touch Zotero Standalone (keep it closed).

Also, while we're trying to fix this, please disable Kaspersky antivirus.

Once you update Zotero for Firefox to 4.0.16 (and if it doesn't fix the issues), follow the steps outlined above

  • i have sucessfully upgraded the zotero standlone but zotero firefox is giving error.
  • What's the error? Also, please follow the steps I have mentioned.
  • ok the error is the file "cannot be open as it is not supported"
  • What exactly are you doing when you're getting this error? And please don't paraphrase error messages. Write them out exactly as they appear.
  • Data directory is showing some custom location it is like
    C:/Users/Adminstrator/AppData/Roaming/Zotero/Zotero/Profiles/84

checked Data Base integerity No- problem in it.

do i have to data directory location.
  • do i have to change data directory location
  • The location of that data directory should be ok. It looks like it's pointing to Zotero Standalone's data directory, which is fine.

So what problems _exactly_ are you experiencing right now in Zotero for Firefox? Is it the same as you described in your first post (missing references, citation styles)? Can you submit an Error Report?
  • Also, you just emailed us output from Zotero 4.0.12 and Firefox 23, both of which are out of date. The output doesn't actually show any errors, but regardless, we can't help you further until you update to the latest versions.
  • i have emailed the debugged report. in the meanwhile i reset my firefox as well, which resulted in disapperence of zotero firefox bar. but iam fine with it now i have zotero standlone, version 4.0.16. Zotero Standalone is showing my library and thats great. thanks a lot for all the feedback and support you people only one problem still that my citation styles are all gone its only showing " cell"
