Can'r use connector, no icon in address bar (Firefox, Safari in Mac OSX Mavericks)

Hi,
I've just installed Zotero standalone and then zotero for firefox on newly installed OSX Mavericks.
Problem is: there is no icon in the address bar, so I can't import pages using translators; I tried with a couple of websites (arxiv, adsabs, aps, aanda).
I also checked with Safari, after installing the safari connector: no icon in the address bar either.
Before submitting this post, I went through https://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues but coulnt debugg it myself.

    Note: some strange things appear in the title of the page (top of browser window), such as:
    <span class="aps-inline-formula"><math display="inline"><mn>2155</mn><mo>-</mo><mn>304</mn></math></span>
    in firefox and safari.

    The icon appears, now. I don't know what triggered its appearing (I had already refreshed the page, restarted firefox).
