Best way to make a collaborative reference page?

Hello

I am preparing to implement some sort of collaborative bibliography page on a Wordpress site. I want a page that can be edited by several people and in which the entries preferably can be imported into Zotero or perhaps other bibliography programs. I don't want a page that *requires* Zotero, but I would like Zotero users to be able to import the references. Does anyone have any tips about how to best accomplish this?

I simple solution would simply to make a wiki-page, although it would need to have some way to mark a reference as a Zotero reference.
  • We didn't create it, but have you looked at Zotpress?
  • thanks for the tip, but I think it requires Zotero to use it. I must have a solution which is simple and citation manager agnostic. Maybe the best solution is to keep it simple and just let the users enter the references manually into a wiki-page. However, I would really be able to import the references to Zotero for those who have it. This is of course possible on Amazon and library databases. Can I make this work on a wiki-page? Is there some kind of markup code that might be easily added in html-view that makes Zotero citation aware?

    yes. Use COinS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COinS
Bibliographies created by Zotero in Html include COinS by default, and you can generate just COinS from Zotero as well.
There are non-Zotero COinS generators, but you'd have to look for them and try them out yourself. I wouldn't recommend doing this by hand.

thanks, that gave me a search term!(they should have chosen a different acronym, though). It seems that there are several such plugins, I'll look into it..
  • A little update on this. As far as I can determine there is only one plugin for Wordpress that enables Coins formated references. There are a few others, but they only insert a reference for the entire blog post or page. It is this one: http://www.wallandbinkley.com/quaedam/2005/08_09_coins-wordpress-plugin-update.html

However, like many of the commentors I am unable to create a button for inserting COinS references. Seems there is no working tool for this. Too bad.
