How can I delete pdf attachment from a library item?

I have searched the discussions for answers, but none of those suggestions worked in my case. I tried moving the item to Trash and right-click the attachment. But I can't find any option to delete it there. I tried using del, nothing happened. Is it just me having this problem?

    Once the item is in the trash, you can either empty the trash (right-click on trash), wait for the trash to auto-empty (30 days after items are deleted by default), or select the item in the trash and press Delete.     But I just want the attachment go and keep the library item metadata.

    Then you have to move the attachment itself to the trash, not the parent item, in which case when you look in the trash the parent item will be in gray but the attachment will be in black. If that's the case, you can select just the attachment in the trash and press Delete.

    If you move the parent item itself to the trash you can't currently delete just the attachment from the trash. (You should probably be able to, but if the parent item is in the trash it's sort of assumed you're going to want to get rid of both.)
